Shenmue III Delayed to 2019 to Polish the Game to “the High Standards it Deserves “

PC, PS4

Looks like we won’t be able to play with Shenmue III at 2018, not surprisingly. Today publisher Deep Silver and developer Ys Net made an announcement to confirm the expected 2018 launch window is no more.

Deep Silver stated that the game will acquire additional gloss to the “high standards it deserves” and a better launch interval.

“Deep Silver declared their forthcoming release Shenmue III was transferred and will now launch in 2019.

The extra time will be used to enhance the quality of the game even further, to the high standards it warrants and release the item in the very best possible interval. “

“To all our backers, we’re very sorry for the delay. After much discussion with our partners, Deep Silver, we have concluded that extending the launch will enable us to deliver Shenmue III at its best. We guarantee to utilize this opportunity to improve the quality of all Shenmue III.

We cannot thank you enough for your enduring support. ”

This is the next time the game is postponed, following the first slip announced in June 2018, almost exactly one year ago.

To be honest, the tidbit regarding the “best potential timeframe” for launch may also be telling. This year we’re becoming Shenmue I & II from Sega, also it might make little sense for a small programmer like Ys Net to launch the third chapter of the series ahead of the younger generations have a chance to check out the first two.

Shenmue III is due to release for PS4 and PC.   Incidentally, for the interest of full disclosure, the author of the article is one of the first Kickstarter backers of this game.
