Sony Issues a Statement Addressing Fortnite Crossplay Compatibility on PS4

PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One

Since the debut of its combat royale mode final fall, Fortnite‘s expansion has been nothing but exponential, and while the game has been celebrated for giving players the capability to crossplay with friends along with other platforms and allowing players carry over progress between platforms, even the dearth of support between PS4 and other consoles has been a point of contention with players, and recent events are bringing matters to a head.

Especially, this situation escalated just a few days back with the launch of Fortnite on the Nintendo Switch, and while we understood that the Switch version would have the ability to crossplay with buddies on other programs except PS4, players didn’t anticipate that Epic Games accounts that were previously tied into a PS4 system would not be in a position to be used on Nintendo Switch, also might demand a new account to play.

In reaction to the numerous players that have left their complaints heard regarding the shortage of Fortnite account compatibility between PS4 and its own rival consoles — in this situation, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch — that a Sony spokesperson issued a formal announcement on BBC on the topic of Fortnite cross-compatibility along together with different platforms. The announcement from Sony is below:

“We’re always open to hearing what the PlayStation community is enthusiastic about to improve their gaming experience.  Fortnite is a huge hit with PS4 fans, offering a real free-to-play encounter so gamers can jump ahead and play online. Together with 79 million PS4s sold across the globe and over 80 million active users on PlayStation Network, we have built a massive community of gamers who can perform together on Fortnite along with most of online games. In addition, we provide Fortnite cross-play support with PC, Mac, iOS, and Android devices, expanding the chance for Fortnite fans on PS4 to play even more gamers on other platforms”

The statement itself out of Sony doesn’t give much of an indication of the issue and whether the firm will actively focus on improving or doing something to rigorously deal with the issues of not only crossplay, but also preventing players from carrying their advancement on PS4 over to another console. On the contrary, it appears more that PS4 players will need to remain connected to playing against other PS4 owners or those around PC or mobile, versus its own rival consoles.

Fortnite is accessible now on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, Mac, iOS, and will be coming to Android after this summer.
